NZ Suffolks was originally imported from the UK into New Zealand until 1952. Whilst there they have been developed into a highly efficient low cost ram that is particularly suited for use on harder terrain. The normal faults of UK Suffolks including difficult births, dopey lambs, dirty backends and the need for concentrates to finish NEVER happens in NZ Suffolks. As a client said my NZ Suffolks are just like what a good Suffolk was 50 years ago befor the breeders messed them up”.
NZ Sufftex( Texel X Suffolk) rams are now the No1 terminal ram in New Zealand. This breed is now properly stabilised and apart from the benefits of Hybrid Vigour will give you the rapid growth of the Suffolk and the meatiness of the Texel.
NZ Texels were originally imported into New Zealand from Scandinavia 35 years ago when those were the only Scrapie Free countries in Europe. Like all New Zealand sheep they have been developed for ease of management and are particularly chosen for the excellent survivability and high meat yields of their lambs.
