BEST EWES FOR TUPPING WITH A NZ EASYRAM TEXEL.
Mules.
Widely used on all types of mule NZ Texel Rams give easily born hardy lambs that are great survivors making them the ideal choice for outdoor lambing flocks. Lambs will look loke UK Texel sired lambs in the live market and will kill out with similar grades. They have excellent tops and are quick to finish.
Texel X Ewes (particularly Texel X Mules)
UK Texel X ewes are very popular, but after the first cross there are increasing lambing issues due to smaller pelvices. The NZ Texel with its narrow head, longer neck and fine shoulders and moderate birth size is the ideal ram for using on first or particularly second generation Texel X ewes, producing an easily born lamb that looks just like a UK Texel X in the live ring.

Romney.
NZ EasyRam Texel rams are proving very popular for use on outdoor lambing Romney ewes. The lambs are as easily born as the pure Romney lambs. They then are superior than the pure lambs in terms of growth rates and carcase quality. They are also much quicker to finish.
Welsh.
Easily born hardy lambs with high survival rates. Very popular for use on all types of Welsh Hill ewe including NZ Suffolk X Welsh ewes..
Lleyns.
Very popular for use on Lleyn ewes particularly in large scale outdoor lambing flocks. Much quicker to finish (anecdotally 4 weeks earlier and 2 Kgs heavier than a pure ewe). Extra length and much faster growth rates resulting in earlier finishing and heavier lambs compared to pure lleyns.
Highlanders.
Widely used on Highlander ewes to give greater consistency to lamb crop.
EasyCares.
Our EasyRam Texel Rams are very popular for those running low Easycare flocks with minimal labour input. The lambs have great skins when sold in the live market.

SELECTED NZ TEXEL TERMINAL TRAITS
Your NZ EasyRam Texel Shearling rams and ram lambs will sire lambs that will always finish quicker off grass and make you more PROFIT than their UK equivalents BECAUSE:
a) NZ stud farmers have deliberately bred sheep with Bigger Rumens to digest more grass and produce quicker growing sheep. The rumen is the engine and Grass is the “diesel” for sheep production.
b) NZ sheep are more Aggressive grazers than their UK equivalents. Maximum grass growth is achieved by intensive stocking and rotational grazing, which requires sheep to be densely stocked on a small area of grass for a short time and then moved to a fresh paddock. Aggressive grazing is key to sheep thriving under this management system.
c) NZ sheep are used to grazing in Large Groups . Superior performers are those that can perform in large mobs near other sheep. All NZ sheep have been run in exceptionally large groups for many decades. Kiwi farmers believe this ability to be more important than being reared in a hard environment.
d) Science . Kiwi ram breeders were the first adopters of scientific performance recording and so bred successive generations of sheep that outperformed the parents in terms of functionality and saleable meat, increasing their client’s bottom-line year on year.
e) Independent Trials: Rams selected for high growth rates and easy finishing off grass only diets unsurprisingly sire the best performing grass-fed lambs. The INZAC comparative trial run by Teagasc for the last 5 years at Athenry in Ireland proved conclusively that NZ Texel rams produce lambs that finish earlier and heavier and with similar slaughter grades to the Northern Hemisphere Texel sired lambs on a grass only feed system.
f) Conversion rates: This trial also showed that although NZ and Irish Texel ewes ate similar amounts of grass (2.2-2.4Kg DM/day) the NZ sired lambs had 244gr Live-weight for every Kg of DM intake of the mother as against the equivalent Irish Live-weight gain of 195gr/day.
